EMPLOYMENT
Establish and periodically review educational goals and policies for Methuen schools, with a focus on the best interest of students, the requirements of law, and statewide goals and standards. Formulate criteria to determine if goals and policies are being met. Establish performance standards, and evaluate the performance of the Superintendent. Review and approve budgets for public education, and determine expenditures within the total appropriation. Communicate effectively and efficiently with the Superintendent, students, and parents.
Prosecute felony offenses, particularly cases involving sex offenders and internet crimes. Responsible for training Assistant District Attorneys on all aspects of criminal prosecutions in the District Courts, as well as providing training and support to those assistants prosecuting felonies. Oversee the District Court Internship Program.
Prosecute misdemeanor and limited felony criminal offenses that occur within the district, which includes: appearing in court to represent the Commonwealth by presenting evidence and argument at arraignments, preliminary hearings, pretrial conferences, oral and written motion hearings, jury and bench trials, and sentencing; legal research necessary for case preparation; working with victims; and keeping abreast of Court decisions and legislation.
Assisted Justices in all phases of criminal and civil litigation, including drafting decisions, legal memoranda, and proposed jury instructions. Worked extensively with Justices during trials, hearings, and motion sessions. Supervised and mentored first year clerks.
